As Falls Awareness Week approaches (June 17-21), National Accident helpline is warning people to watch their step in order to prevent slips, trips and falls after releasing statistics which show a rise in the number of claims relating to slip and trip injuries in the last six years. Falls awareness week was created by Age UK in an effort to raise the awareness of reducing the risk of a fall in older people.

According to the charity, a fall occurs in around a third of over 65's every year. Although the risk of falling increases as people get older, National Accident Helpline is advising people of all ages to tread carefully after statistics revealed that there was a 58% increase in personal injury claims made for slips, trips and falls from 2006 to 2012.

Beth Powell, marketing director at National Accident Helpline, said: "We are fully supportive of Falls Awareness Week but it's important to emphasise that a fall can happen to anyone at any time, and we are asking that people watch where they are going.

"If you or a family member has suffered an accident due to someone else's negligence, we are here to help. Please get in touch and speak to one of our personal injury advisors."
