To mark the UK's first ever Accident Awareness Week, National Accident Helpline commissioned a study to find out just how accident prone we are in the UK and what modern menaces are tripping us up in our everyday lives.

A shocking 1 in 3 Brits feel that they are accident prone. Amongst young people this number is even higher, with 60% of 16-24 year olds believing that they are clumsy. That is almost double the national average!

Perhaps unsurprisingly, technology-related injuries are among the most common avoidable accidents in the UK. Many of us are guilty of spending too much time glued to our screens, but now it seems that our smartphone obsession could actually be the cause of some of our mishaps. National Accident Helpline's study of 2,000 people in the UK found more than one in ten (13%) Brits have walked into something while checking their phone and a staggering 60% of young adults have dropped their phone on their face while reading it lying down!

Phones are not the only hazard in contemporary Britain. Our survey respondents reported all sorts of accidents, from selfie-stick injuries to getting stuck in a yoga position. Kitchen gadgets and even hover boards were also cited as being a cause of accidents in and around the home.

While many of these accidents are minor, they can have more serious consequences. Accident Awareness Week aims to raise awareness of avoidable accidents and offer practical advice about how they can be prevented.

Accident Awareness Week takes place from 9th - 13th November. To find out more about keeping safe, visit national-accident-helpline.co.uk/news/accident-awareness-week where you'll find tips and advice from our expert team and partners of how to avoid accidents.
